Business Development Manager (f/m/d) in Lyon


The Business Development Manager (BDM) is ultimately responsible for engaging customers and increasing revenue in the region EMEA. This position includes networking with industry leaders, researching industry events, and publications to align our product development and strategy with Edmund Optics’ customer needs. Regular customer visits and trade show attendance is expected to represent the business.

Essential Functions:

  • Sales Prospecting and Customer Engagement: Identify and lead strategic engagement with customers on products and markets
    • Conduct proactive outbound prospecting to follow-up on new leads through phone calls, emails, and other communication channels. This includes incoming quote requests and tradeshow leads.
  • Technical Expertise: Develop a deep understanding of Edmund Optics products and services. Stay updated on industry trends, technology advancements, and target application spaces
    • Attend internal and external trainings and technical conferences as appropriate.
  • Customer Solutions: Work closely with customers to understand their unique requirements and coordinate product solutions that meet their technical and business needs.
    • Knowledge and solutions shall include Standard product and modified standard options.
    • Work closely with manufacturing services team team to hand-off and receive custom and volume manufacturing opportunities as necessary.
  • Market Informed Research:
    • Network with industry leaders and key influencers to ensure that the EO product and technology roadmaps align with what is needed in the market.
      • Represent EO at major industry events: congresses, conventions, trade shows.


Qualifications:

Your profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, or hard science
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in the optics/photonics industry
  • Experience in sales and negotiations
  • Fluency in English and German OR in English and French
  • Experience with CRM software and other sales tools
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients
  • Results-oriented with a track record of meeting or exceeding commercial goals
  • Strong technical acumen with the ability to understand and communicate complex technical concepts effectively
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to travel internationally (appr. 25%)
