Brief Summary

The Senior Automation Engineer is responsible for proposing, budgeting, developing and implementing (networked) automation solutions to enhance Edmund Optics’s competitiveness in the highend optical components market. He/she provides technical guidance to the cadre of internal and external automation engineers, promoting consultation and collaboration. In addition, he/she works closely with internal and external partners, prepares decision papers and leads implementation projects.

Job Description

  • Devise, cost, design, develop, configure and implement mechanical/electronic/digital processes which will optimize efficiencies, increase yield and enhance Edmund Optic’s capabilities, from idea to pilot phase
  • Provide guidance to engineers on Smart Automation and Industry 4.0 matters and initiate and cultivate discussion
  • Define process monitoring plans and ensure consistent and efficient operation
  • Provide timely support the relevant OPs and QA teams on the running of processes through pilot phase and into production phase and create and maintain solution documentation
  • Cooperate with internal and external partners to improve EO’s capabilities overall

Required Skills & Abilities

MSc in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering or other relevant Engineering field and at least 5 years of industry experience

Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience setting up programmable logic controller (PLC), single-board computers and/or robotic or automated systems, preferably in an industrial environment
  • Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) would be advantageous
  • Effective communicator, both written and oral, and organizer with strong leadership skills
  • Solid team player, strong interpersonal skills in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment
  • Analytical problem solving and attention to detail
  • Highly self-driven and ability to work independently
